Meet the Artist — Kandy

Hi! I'm Kandy, the artist and founder of Bit O' Whimsey, a colorful little art business I started in Michigan in 2009.

After working a few different jobs and eventually becoming a stay-at-home mom, I decided it was time to pursue something I'd always loved—art. I started experimenting with this thing called mixed media, and I never looked back!

What began as a creative adventure soon grew into a business. I started showing my work at art and craft shows, selling to gift shops, and eventually expanding into wholesale and licensing. Over the years, my artwork has found its way into homes and shops across the country and around the world. I love creating art that people don't just look at, but that makes them smile.

A Little Bit About My Art

I don't really believe in sticking to just one medium. My studio is filled with paint, paper, fabric, ink, found objects, and all sorts of interesting little treasures. If I can glue it, paint it, tear it, layer it, or give it a second life, there's a good chance I'll find a way to put it in a painting!

My creative process usually begins with a background of canvas or wood. From there, I build layer upon layer using tissue papers, textured papers, fabrics, paint, and whatever else catches my eye. Some pieces are carefully planned, while others take on a life of their own as I work.

I love the way the layers interact—the bits of pattern and texture that peek through, the unexpected combinations of color, and the little details you might notice only after looking at a piece for a while.

Art That Makes You Smile

At the heart of everything I create is joy.

My artwork is whimsical, colorful, and a little bit playful. I want each piece to have its own personality and to bring a little happiness into the space where it lives.

Whether I'm creating an original painting, a print, a greeting card, or one of my other whimsical treasures, my goal is always the same:

To create art that makes people smile and brings a little more color, joy, and imagination into everyday life.
